Kashmir Greater Lakes Trek itinerary: Tosamaidan-Yusmarg Circuit
Here is the itinerary of my Kashmir Greater Lakes Trek: Tosamaidan-Yusmarg Circuit. Tosamaidan, also known as the Forbidden Meadow, is the base for many amazing surprises in the form of lakes, meadows, mountain passes, rivers, wildflowers, and exotic fauna. Tosamaidan was inaccessible for years, but now thanks to the dedication and hard efforts of local people from adjacent villages, Tosamadian is available for trekkers, nature lovers, hikers, mountaineers, botanists, zoologists, geologists & environmentalists. The end destination of Yousmarg, on the other hand, is a beautiful lush green meadow covered by pine forests and different varieties of wildflowers. It is a base for many thrills like rolling lush green meadows, lakes, treks,
mountain expeditions, and wildlife.

Can Kashmir Greater Lakes Trek Itinerary Tosamaidan Yusmarg Circuit be done independently, without a guide or tour operator?
It’s not recommended — the trek crosses remote, high-altitude terrain with unpredictable weather, and this itinerary relied on a local guide who arranged logistics like camping and even a horse for the toughest stretches.

About a week is ideal, allowing enough time to properly acclimatize and cover the full Tosamaidan to Yousmarg circuit without rushing.
Can you help me plan a realistic version of Kashmir Greater Lakes Trek Itinerary Tosamaidan Yusmarg Circuit that balances sightseeing with rest days?
Build in a full day in Srinagar before starting for acclimatization and sightseeing, then treat the trek itself as the main event, since the remote terrain and shifting weather leave little room for extra activities along the way.

What’s a flexible way to adapt Kashmir Greater Lakes Trek Itinerary Tosamaidan Yusmarg Circuit if I have a few extra or fewer days?
With extra days, add a weather buffer, since bad conditions can cost real trekking time, or extra rest in Srinagar; with fewer days, this remote circuit is hard to shorten safely, so it’s best to consult your guide on trimming options.
