Cours Julien in Marseille
This is one of Marseille’s most hyped districts. Located next to the thriving Noailles quarter, Cours Julien, or ‘Cours Ju’ as it is popularly called, is associated with artists, fun shops, musicians, and interesting bars and pubs. We found it to be an elongated concrete square shaded by palm trees and surrounded by a busy street on one side and a row of cafes with outdoor seating on the other. Perhaps our high expectations from this much-hyped place left us disappointed, but we found Cours Julien to be a tad run-down. There was not much to write home about because we have seen countless such quarters in hundreds of cities worldwide. Cours Julien must be a nice place to hang out for the locals but for us, it was an area with some interesting shops and some cool street art. Take a look at it and decide for yourself. I liked Le Panier more.
